Bus stop prototype installed in the Lower Nine

For the second module of the 2017 Summer Public Interest Design Fellowship, Kekeli, Kelsey, Christie, Ana, Ryan, and Carolyn – our summer fellows – worked with Groundwork New Orleans, a local chapter of a national nonprofit that works at the intersection of environmental justice, civic engagement, and youth job training.

The fellows worked with the staff and Green Team members of Groundwork New Orleans to design, build, and install a solar-powered bus stop prototype. The bus stop was fully installed this week at the intersection of Caffin and Prieur.

This summer fellowship is made possible by the generous support of Morris Adjmi, Eskew+Dumez+Ripple, and the Sizeler family.

The solar-powered bench was designed and constructed by Tulane School of Architecture students, and Groundwork New Orleans staff and Green Team members, with support from the US Environmental Protection Agency. Special thanks to Batture Engineering and The Blind Pelican for additional project assistance.
