Singing Oak Tree Design Competition – WINNER ANNOUNCED!!

Tulane School of Architecture, through the Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design, teamed up with New Orleans City Park in hosting a design competition to create a dynamic public space within the park. City Park assembled a 10-person panel to review entries based on design, budget, feasibility, maintenance, and other factors.

Congratulations to “Mindful Shadow,” authored by graduate student Théa Spring, as our winner! City Park noted the design’s elegant simplicity, accessibility, and ability to accommodate programming at this popular site while protecting the iconic Singing Oak. “It is a great opportunity and responsibility to design for the future of the Singing Tree and its visitors. I look forward to working with City Park and the Small Center to make it a caring space, through every detail.” -Théa Spring

The competition gathered input from hundreds of respondents via both an online survey and in-person viewing when finalists’ designs were displayed at the project site. A big thank you to the many students and faculty who contributed their time over winter break to this exciting competition!
